Rejected and Despised, A Man of Sorrows...
Isaiah 52:13-53:12
Quoting 53:4-5 “Surely He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed” (700 B.C.; Dead Sea Scrolls Isaiah manuscripts (2) ~Dr. Gary Cohen; Zion’s Fire)
Fulfillment:
“He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not. He came unto His own, and His own received Him not” ~John 1:10-11
“When the even was come, they brought unto Him many that were possessed with devils: and He cast out the spirits with His word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses” ~Matthew 8:16-17
“But though He had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on Him: That the saying of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? And to whom hath the arm of the Lord revealed?” ~John 12:37-38
“ 'Who committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth’ (Isaiah 53:9); who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.” ~1 Peter 2:22-24
Also in fulfillment of the complete text: Mark 10:45; 15:4-5, 27-28; Matthew 27:57, 60
