Temptation 2

Jesus knew God the Father. “I and the Father are One.” ~John 10:30
Edith Schaeffer points out that when Jesus was tempted, Jesus answered with Old Testament quotes. “You see,” she writes, “Jesus is emphasizing the fact that the Old Testament IS the Word of God, and He is using that which is available as knowledge to any man, knowledge of true truth which God has had written for men. Jesus IS NOT using the personal knowledge of which He has an infinite store, but referring to the verbalized, recorded Word of God.” (p. 134, Christianity is Jewish, emphasis added)

So when asked to worship Satan, Jesus was, in effect, being tempted to bow to the root of all other religions based on lies and deception, the father of every false god and the current cancerous version of misguided dilution and distortion of Truth, mixed with humanistic philosophies. All other religions besides the Christian faith are man’s struggle to reach God. The God of the Gospel struggles to reach men and has been victorious by the Perfect life, death, and resurrection of the Messiah. Jesus Christ, the King of kings, did not bow but quoted the Word, and WAS the Word.

“It is written, thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve.” ~Deuteronomy 6:13

Verse fourteen continues, “Ye shall not go after other gods, the gods of the people which are round about you;”
